Every so often you get a craving for really good Mexican food. When done right, it's fresh, it's flavorful, what's not to love? Yesterday evening we had one of those cravings. Anybody from Atlanta knows we have a wealth of good Mexican food sprinkled across almost every neighborhood in the metro area. We, like anyone else, have some standbys that we enjoy, El Rey del Taco, La Pastorcita and our neighborhood guilty pleasure, Tijuana Joe's. However, we wanted to try something different tonight so we did the required internet searching and settled on Buzy Burrito in Doraville. They do have an Atlanta address, but we all know that's not always an indicator of where a place is actually located. Upon entering, we were greeted by the fairly standard Mexican restaurant decor. Think elaborate paper cutouts, fake parrots hanging from the ceiling and random paintings of Mayan traditions. Once we sat down we were promptly greeted by our waiter, he took our order and answered any questions we had easily. He never left us needing anything, so off the bat we liked where Buzy Burrito was taking us.
The requisite chips and salsa arrived along with our drinks and our culinary exploration began. The chips were great, they were crisp with just the right amount of salt and you could taste the corn flavor in the chips. The salsa however was a disappointment. It was watery and tasted strongly of tomato juice, as if that was the base instead of actual tomatoes. The food arrived quickly after ordering, about 15 minutes after ordering our dishes. I got El Mocajete, which was like fajitas on steroids, Kaitlynn got the chicken enchiladas and her brother John who joined us ordered the house Buzy Burrito. I had never had anything like this before, it came out in a sizzling black stone bowl, filled to the brim with steak, chicken, shrimp and chorizo plus peppers and onions all with a generous drizzle of queso on top that melted even further down to reach even the bottom pieces of meat. It came with all your typical fajita sides, rice and beans, tortillas, guacamole, and lettuce, pico de gallo and sour cream. It was a great meal, the meat was flavorful and tender, the steak in particular cut like butter and was delicious, the vegetables were fresh and it showed. Overall, I'd rate it as a 4.5/5 everything was flavorful and worked well together to make a great meal. My only complaint would be the amount of chorizo in comparison to the other meats, but it was a super tasty, filling meal for a reasonable price.
Kaitlynn:

I had the chicken enchiladas and was so disappointed. Like a lot of people, when I'm craving Mexican food I'm actually craving fajitas, so for me choosing enchiladas was a change of pace. I chose the queso topped chicken enchiladas and while they weren't terrible I definitely wouldn't order them again. The queso was great, the tortillas were great, but the chicken had no taste. It was basically just boiled chicken in a tortilla topped with lettuce, pico de gallo and some cheese plus they came with rice and beans. The rice had a good taste but they were overcooked and had an odd texture, the beans were pretty average. John said his burrito wasn't bad but it was dry and he wished it had some sort of sauce along with it. He did mention that the way they laid it out was almost perfect though, the beans were in the middle with the rice on one side so you could eat one or the other or both. We asked him what he'd rate the restaurant overall and he gave it a 3.7.
Towards the end of the meal the manager came by and checked in on us and brought a different salsa for the chips. It was a creamy avocado based salsa and should have been the default that came out with the chips. It was creamy and cool but with a deceiving amount of heat. The restaurant was also surprisingly tech-friendly given the location and appearance. The waiter used a tablet to take our order, there was free wi-fi, you can order through Uber Eats and our receipt came out and you only needed to check a box to leave the tip (the option was there to leave a custom tip) so that all math was eliminated. Some big things the restaurant does have going for it are the prices and the speed of service. You can easily eat here for under $10 and we were in and out within about 45 minutes. Overall based on the food as a whole, the restaurant appears uneven. The salsa was bad and the enchiladas were lacking flavor, the El Mocajete was great but the burrito, while well made, needed a sauce of some kind. It is worth a stop if you're in the area, but order carefully as it is inconsistent.
Dylan's Final Review:
Food: 4/5
My review may be a bit biased because I had the El Mocajete, but I rather enjoyed the dish. There were some amazing flavors, and everything from the tortillas to the guacamole were outstanding. The salsa was disappointing and the proportions in the El Mocajete needed work, but based on all those factors, I enjoyed the meal.
Service: 4.5/5
I don't really have anything bad to say about our service. It was prompt and our server never left us for long, but he wasn't omnipresent either.
Value: 4/5
The value here is great. The prices were very reasonable and it is very possible to eat for under $10.
Overall: 4.25/5
My experience here was positive. My dish was delicious, the price was fair, and the service was great. There were inconsistencies for sure, but it was a tasty meal.
Kaitlynn's Final Review:
Food: 3/5
While the food wasn't awful, it certainly wasn't the best I've ever had. It wasn't even really average to be honest. I'd stop if I needed some quick Mexican food on my way to somewhere but I wouldn't stop if I was planning to go out to dinner on a Friday night.
Service: 5/5
I have no complaints at all. Our server was nice, helpful with questions, he had a knack at showing up at the right times.
Value: 4/5
It's certainly cheap to eat here and if you order the right things I think the value works out in your favor. If it was just for my order this score would certainly be lower.
Overall: 3.5/5
It's an average, okay, maybe a smidgen below average Mexican restaurant. When you're craving that it's for sure the first place you should go, otherwise maybe pick somewhere else.
